Not only does The Barra’Prentice program build self-reliant and empowered female anglers, it also builds strong bonds between team mates. At the end of every program, we find it very hard to cut the bow lines and set our newly graduated ’Prentice adrift. That’s why our Alumni is so precious to us.

Now, we’ve launched The Graduate… sister team to The Barra’Prentice and a fantastic pathway for our Alumni to stay engaged and retain the skills and connections they’ve made.

Steve Starling swims a lit-up, mature dusky flathead before release. This fish has been tagged and genetic samples taken for scientific research.

You’ll all remember Georgi, who stepped up in 2019 to take Vicki Lear’s mentoring position for a one–off ride. We probably don’t need to tell you that she fitted in perfectly and, of course, made herself available to help at any time we should need.

Truth be known, we all had such a good time that we decided to keep her on, as skipper for The Graduate team!

Georgi brings her beloved GS Marine barra boat to the team, providing a very swanky ride for the girls.

The Graduate is proudly sponsored by Manning River Marine, keeping the girls on the water. Other sponsors are currently being sought.

All Barra’Prentice graduates will be eligible to fish on The Graduate team, based on a “first in — best dressed” basis. Further, The Graduate team may choose to nominate in more diverse tournaments than SWB Barra Challenge, allowing for the development of different fishing skills.

This is an exciting new era for The Barra’Prentice program. We look forward to sharing it with you!

Sweet Ride!
