Improved Half-Blood (Clinch) Knot

The Improved Half-Blood (Clinch) Knot is a time tested, tried and true knot that is really simple and quick to tie. It is perfect for attaching terminal tackle, such a bait hooks, lures and swivels, to monofilament or fluorocarbon line (not recommended for braid) that is less than 25lb breaking strain. NOTE: this knot does not form a loop, so should only be used when you don’t rely on “play” in the rigging to enhance action of lures. It can be used tight to surface lures.
Step One
Thread the end of the fishing line through the eye of the hook and double the line back on itself, making five twists around the standing line.
Step Two
Bring the tag end back through the first loop that formed behind the eye of the hook, then feed it through the second loop that has formed at the top of the knot.

Step Three
Wet the knot (saliva is perfect) before pulling on the tag end to tighten the coils. Pull on the standing line to pull the knot tight onto the hook. Trim the tag end close, leaving about 3mm.
